Welcome!

Summer  2008!

The NEW website is in progress.  I apologize for the lack of attention to this, but I was in WAY over my head.    Please check back often, and many improvements will be taking place quickly!

My CD “Roads to Colorado”is FINISHED!!   I recorded 12  songs, and a poem!
The heart beat of the album is the great rhythm guitar tracks by the fabulous Mike Dowling!  www.mikedowling.com  He also plays lead guitar on several tracks.  The other wonderful musicians are:  Julia Hays, fiddle; Ernie Martinez - Dobro and mandolin; Duane Webster- acoustic bass; John Magnie-accordion; and wonderful harmony singing by Jean Prescott, Timothy P. Irvin, and Jim Ratts.   I sang a lot of the harmonies too, in honor of the late, great Mary Ford!    Jim Ratts, of Raven Recordings is the most patient and soulful co-producer and we’re both proud of this album!

The title cut is the great song written by Michael Fleming of New West.  The theme of the album is about the joys of traveling, and the angst of leaving, the yin and yang of adventure!   Other songs include “Piney Wood Hills””Give Me a Home in Montana,” “ Little Green Valley”, and a very obscure song from the Sons of the Pioneers’ Tim Spencer, called “The New Froniter.”   I co- wrote a song with my friend, Joyce Woodson, and a poem with the dear, Doris Daley.     WATCH FOR A  FULL PAGE about the  ALBUM to appear soon on this web site!

You can order at www.WesternSerenade.com or you can send $18 to Liz Masterson, PO Box 12699, Denver, CO  80212 and get your copy of ROADS to COLORADO!!!   It will personally specially handled by yours truly!

2007 was a year of many new projects!   Each of these will eventually have their own pages, but for now, here’s what I’ve been up to!

Another  new CD in progress!   A Western Swing project with my good friend, fabulous fiddler, Ron Jones.   It’s coming along, and we’ll let you know when it’s done!

3 Wonderful “Girl Groups”!

“Sweethearts in Carhartts” I’m working with Jean Prescott and Yvonne Hollenbeck! This is a fun show of poetry, music and collaborations about Ranch Women!   We’ve been well-received at some festivals, are ready to roll!    For bookings:  Jean at 325-583-2553   www.jeanprescott.com

“The Singing Cowgirls” with Jean Prescott, and our darling friend, Cindy Hobbs of The Flying J Wranglers and fabulous Chuckwagon show in Ruidoso, NM. This group a great sound and we LOVE singing AND yodeling together.   We made our debut at the Lincoln County Symposium in Ruidoso, and got to do a tribute to Cindy Walker with the Texas Playboys as our band!!! We’re also thrilled to be in musical cahoots with the talented Flying J Wranglers, and are starting an album!    For bookings:  Contact James Hobbs at the Flying J Ranch 505-336-4330 or his Cell:  505-937-0552

“Clever Name-Coming Soon” I’m in another WONDERFUL girl trio with Suze Spencer Marshall and the First Lady of Western Harmony, Marilyn Tuttle.   We performed at the Western Music Festival in Albuquerque, and were thrilled to be in the audience when Marilyn was given a Lifetime Achievement Award.  She was so surprised, but she was the ONLY one!    Suze was also a hit giving a Swing Guitar workshop with Ranger Doug (Riders in the Sky) Suze, Marilyn and I am excited to make a CD!   We have the talent and material, just looking for time and money…and oh, yes, a Clever Name!

Discovery Channel’s MYTHBUSTERS  I was delighted to fly to Telluride, CO and see if my yodeling would start an avalanche!    You’ll have to watch the episode to see what happens.

Corn Beef Wranglers – Cowboy Music with a Celtic Twist!  I’m enjoying playing with this new band that includes Julia Hays and Ron Jones on fiddle and Rock Eggen on accordion and tin whistle.  We’ve had some nice concerts and festivals this year, and looking forward to St. Patrick’s Day!

Music of the Civil War – I’m reworking this show for schools and cultural centers with the help of Rex Rideout.  He is a great old-time musician, plays a variety of instruments and is a walking historian. Our rehearsals a have been fun, and we have our first show in February!

Liz Masterson Solo - As much as I love collaborations with my musical friends, I also love the simplicity of working alone.   I’m continuing and expanding a variety of programs.  Last February, I spent a most enjoyable week as an Artist-in-Residence in Alliance, NE.    The students were wonderful, and the community concert was such a treat.  Although the weather outside was FRIGHTFUL, the warmth of the teachers and kids is what I will always remember!

Liz Masterson and Sean Blackburn I will always treasure my 18 years with the incredible Sean Blackburn and miss him terribly.  I still hear from people who are just learning of Sean’s death, Sept 29, 2005.  It’s been a long, hard recovery for all of us who loved him.   I am so grateful to all my wonderful friends and colleagues who have encouraged me to keep moving.
